Getting Traffic, My Way

By Carrie Spry On December 10, 2009 Under Internet Marketing

When you’ve been caught by scam after scam, it becomes very difficult to stay positive. Oh yes, I dabbled in the pay per click, didn’t know what I was doing, lost my shirt. I can afford 5 cents per click but when other companies are willing to pay 5 dollars, I’m smart enough to take myself out of the game.

You could join forums and place a link in your signature, I tried that. But for the small amount of info and the huge waste of time, well, let’s just say it’s not worth it. I have better things to do than search around forums and give little tid bits of information.

If god would smile upon me and place me at the top of the search engines, I guess I would have nothing to complain about. Hopefully, I will get there. I’m not a millionaire now, but I know eventually, I will be. It’s just a matter of time.

OK, let’s get back on track, or should I say traffic. Now that I told you pay per click is a waste of money and forums are a waste of time, how do you get traffic. Well, you could blog, but that would only work if you have scores of traffic going to your blog. Press releases are another suggestion, but most of those sites cost money, to me I would just rather write a free article.

Then there’s social bookmarking. I still haven’t quite figured this one out. Isn’t it suppose to be others who bookmark you that make you popular, that can’t happen if you don’t have those people visiting you. Then there is MySpace or Facebook. Well you can tell you friends and family, but chances are they already know.

As far as I am concerned article marketing is one of the cheapest and best ways of getting traffic. Depending on which sites you submit to, you can get hundreds and even thousands of visitors per day in less than one month. It really depends on how many articles you write and what kind of quality they are.

First you need to write an article or two. Next you need to submit it to a directory. One of the most popular is Ezine Articles. They also tend to have the higher standards. Submit to them first. If they accept it, you know it’s good. Then you can re-submit that article to other directories.

You can get some free submitters that will submit your article to a number of directories. Usually, if it’s free it is some kind of software that runs on your computer. The up side is that it’s free and it can help to automate the submission process which makes less work for you.

Unfortunately, here is the down side. These types of submitters are not supported, they hold static information, and only for about 100-200 sites. Your article will be sent to a general article directory, which doesn’t rank as high as niche directories. Also, each article will be exactly the same. Search engines don’t particularly like that.
